DASHFLASH: Encouraging News for Jobs In Some Connecticut Industry Sectors
10/30/2009
CERC's Latest Dashboards Show Employement Trends by Industry During Recession
Economic indicators posted to CERC's newest Dashboard, "recovery tracker," show increases in jobs for some of Connecticut’s major industry sectors since the start of the recession in December 2007 and declines for others. The data provide evidence that this recession has provoked further structural shifts in Connecticut’s economy. The “recovery tracker” is the most recent addition to the interactive, web-based CERC Dashboards, a tool that provides Connecticut businesses with a unique and critical perspective on Connecticut’s competitive performance.
The latest CERC DashFlash (analysis) shows: Two sectors – Education and Health Services – have posted positive job growth over the past 22 months. The other six sectors have lost, and with a few exceptions, continue to lose jobs. The Construction sector shows a modest rebound, and employment losses in the Information and Manufacturing sectors may be abating somewhat. Although too early to make a definitive statement, trends may suggest some encouraging news for the state’s economy. The dashboards compare the changes in number of jobs reported in December 2007 in a given month up until September 2009.
